What is a Bike Bus? 

A Bike Bus is a group ride where children cycle together to and from school, led by Apex staff and volunteers.
​This year the bike bus will only be offered to Biddeford Middle School students.
These programs offer benefits that extend beyond just getting to school:

1. Health and Fitness: Studies show that students who are healthy, awake, and alert perform better at school. It also improves health by increasing daily physical activity and creating lifelong healthy habits, enabling kids to build strong bones, muscles and joints. 
   
   
2. ​Safety: Riding in a group increases visibility and safety. With trained leaders and experienced cyclists guiding the way, the Bike Bus provides a secure environment for children to navigate their route. It also increases traffic safety skills and confidence for students, through opportunities to learn about road safety and a safer environment to practice and improve abilities.

3. Promotes Independence and Confidence: Biking to school encourages children to take responsibility for their daily commute, promoting independence and self-reliance! It also helps relieve parents from pick up/drop off responsibilities.
   
   
4. Solves transportation issues: Such as reduced school bus service, dangerous traffic congestion at pick up/ drop off times, and student absences and tardiness due to transportation challenges.​ ​

Students can meet at Apex Youth Connection (45 Granite Street, Biddeford) at 8am, or they can wait for us at the end of their street. We will start the Bike Bus at 8am and will be riding the route from 8am until 8:25am. We will also pick up students at BMS at 3:10pm and ride home with them. 
Volunteers and staff will wear safety vests, play music, and make it a fun event!
