Position summary:
This position reports directly to the Program Director (PD). Adventure Program Instructors (API) serve to ensure the delivery, quality, and safety of the full line of Apex Adventure Camp programming including:
Adventure Camp core programs for 5th – 12th grade students are offered Monday – Friday during summer vacation. Candidates must pass a criminal history background check. We also offer two one-week trips to various locations in New England.
Candidates are required to attend the training and assessment dates late spring, and additional training may be required on a case-by-case basis. Candidates for whom driving a 12-passenger van is a function of the position to which they are applying will be required to attend van / trailer driver training on May 28th. Candidates will have to successfully complete the training and assessment to be assigned work.

- Challenge course facilitation
- MTB and road cycling
- Rock climbing and bouldering
- Wilderness skills
- Overnight trips

Essential responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Instructor in maintaining a safe learning environment
- Support in reaching prescribed outcomes and objectives
- Support with behavioral management of class or program participants
- Designing and delivering the components of the class or program assigned
- Support with gear and equipment preparation and inspection
- Support as directed in the event of an incident or accident
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have some experience with multiple Adventure Program skillsets such as various wilderness skills, rock climbing and general rope work, Leave No Trace, cycling, and challenge course facilitation
- Experience working with youth
- Outdoor Education degree or coursework preferred but not required
- CPR/First Aid required but can be obtained after hire, WFA preferred
Desired Qualifications:
- 25 years of age to be able to drive our 12-passenger vans
- Clean driving record
- Wilderness First Responder certification
- ACA Kayak Instructor certification
